Training

Philosophy

Beyond the mere transmission of clinical information from trainer to participant, Jim has always maintained that ultimately the most important goal in a training activity is the development of the participant’s thinking processes. Teaching clinicians how to think and not what to think is the hallmark of any good trainer and is at the heart of Jim’s training philosophy.

Whether the training is on clinical treatment planning, where the emphasis is more on defining the nature of the client’s therapeutic “journey” through treatment rather than on how to fill in boxes on a treatment plan form, or is on ethics where the focus is less about memorizing a list of unethical behaviors and more about how an ethical relationship is established and maintained, Jim strives to challenge participants to go beyond the usual boundaries to achieve a deeper level of understanding about clinical issues and their role in them.
