Substance Abuse Clinical Documentation

Overview:
The goal of this course is to provide participants with a thorough understanding of clinical documentation, including:
- the clinical assessment
- the clinical summary
- the individualized treatment plan
- the transition/discharge plan
- the ongoing progress notes
- the legal/ethical issues related
to record-keeping

Objectives:
- To gain a thorough understanding of the components of the clinical documentation process
- To have a working knowledge of the problem resolution sequence
- To accurately assess a client case and draft a complete treatment plan

Ethics, Counseling and The Wounded Healer

Dates: Tuesdays, March 11 - April 29
Times: 11:30am - 1:00pm, MDT

Overview:
The degree of ethical behavior a substance abuse counselor brings to the clinical setting is ultimately a result of how psychologically healthy he or she is. Too often, someone working with a client is all but completely unaware of how his/her own unresolved issues are affecting the therapeutic relationship. The goal of this training is to illustrate the variety of ways these issues can affect that relationship and how they can be managed.
Objectives:
- Become conversant with all basic ethical issues related to Substance Abuse counseling
- Identify common ethical dilemmas and their origins
- Develop strategies for dealing with ethical dilemmas with clients
- Identify the strengths and pitfalls associated with the concept of the Wounded Healer
